The residents of Igboeze North
Local Government Area of
Enugu State, were left in shock
after a 40-year-old commercial
motorcyclist, Michael Eze, was
killed by a passenger Michael Gabriel after a disagreement
over N50.
According to Punch Metro, the
incident happened around 9pm
on February 2, 2017, after the
Okada rider demanded that
N50 be added to their agreed
fare due to the length of the journey. Gabriel, in a fit of anger,
allegedly hit the victim with
an iron rod in the head, which
made him to collapse.
He was
rushed to a private hospital in
the community where he was confirmed dead. Policemen
from the state command
arrested the suspect. Speaking to PUNCH
correspondent, a resident who
did not want to be identified,
said Gabriel was close to his
house when the incident
happened. He said; "When the rider saw that the
house was farther than what
Garbiel described to him, he
insisted that N50 must be
added to the fare they agreed
on.
That was what led to the disagreement." The state Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP
Amaraizu Ebere, confirmed the
incident, adding that the police
had yet to establish the cause
of the disagreement. He said; "The suspect is helping
operatives of the command in
their investigations."
